Are you keeping track of all the big things going on at Grace?
We voted as a congregation this past Sunday to accept the gift of 20 acres of land on 624. The gift came with two conditions: that we not subdivide the land but use it all for ministry and we begin construction in two years.
We voted as a Church Council last Monday to move our 9:45 worship service into the fellowship hall so that we would have more room for more people.
These are both amazing decisions that will open up the doors of grace to more people who may have never experienced the power of a relationship with God. Both decisions are also going to create an enormous amount of work but I am getting used to that.

I am upset that the 9:45 service will be moved out of the sanctuary and into the gym. I will be out of town on October 14th and this is the only way I can express displeasure unless I can find someone to represent me at the meeting.
On September 30th we voted to build a new church because this one did not have a friendly appearance among other things. The next day the newsletter is out saying that the largest part of the congregation will be kicked out of the sanctuary. How friendly is that?
The Church Council has decided, but we have rarely had trouble between the 9:45 service and 11:00 service in the many years we have had a 9:45 service, what has changed? I think it is an issue of time management. All of the people involved in planning the service need to stay in the time constraints. It seams that we have added things to the service. Surely, we could cut the 10 to 12 minutes and not alienate over one third of our membership.

I am on vacation this week but I will call Don when I get back. I am glad the weblog is here for people who feel that they have no other way to express displeasure. (I can speak from experience that there seem to be lots of way to express displeasure: people often call me at work and at home, email me or send me mail. This way is a lot more public.)
Since it was presented in such a public forum, I would be interested in seeing if anyone else has a comment.

Although I don't attend the 9:45 service, I'd be interested in hearing what 10 or 12 minute "chunk" of worship that Mr. McBride would suggest cutting. I can see how a minute or two can be saved when everything "flows" perfectly but there isn't anything during worship that I would want to cut out.

That seems to be what we hear a lot. We have experimented a number of times cutting things to save time and that is the reaction we usually get. 10 to 12 minutes would be a couple of songs, over half a sermon or communion.
I don't like cutting anything out of a service. If the Spirit is moving, we should continue the service no matter how long it takes.
I am a member of Focal Point Church. We are a mobile church and have been for the past 3 years. I think it is great that Grace has been blessed with 20 acres of land to build a ministry on. I also think having to move the 9:45 service from the sanctuary to the gym is a blessing. Needing more room is always a good thing. Sounds to me things are going in the right direction. Maybe when you get the gym filled up you can fill the new building on 624.
